Resolution: Innovations in sustainable rangelands and pastoralism

Jul 5, 2019 | News & Updates

Through the joint contributions of the International Support Group for International Year of Rangelands and Pastoralists (IYRP) initiative that we are a member of, the “Innovations in sustainable rangelands and pastoralism” resolution passed by the UN Environment Assembly 4.

This is a very important step forward as the resolution focuses solely on supporting mobile pastoralism at a high platform. It has also strengthened our efforts for the declaration of the IYRP.

The resolution urges and invites states:

– to raise awareness & promote innovative solutions for sustainable rangelands & pastoralism taking into account traditional knowledge
– to strengthen global efforts to conserve & sustainably use rangelands acknowledging ongoing global efforts to introduce a proposal for an International Year of Rangelands and Pastoralism to the FAO’s Committee on Agriculture
– to support rangeland restoration through increased promotion of investments, incentives, market access, soil & water conservation, conservation & sustainable use of biodiversity, planned grazing & herding mechanism and so on.
